Credit Card Processing Fee Calculator
Estimate one payment’s fee and net receipt, find a modeled gross for a target net, or estimate monthly processing costs. Enter your own rates; monthly totals assume identical average-size tickets.

Estimate fees with your own rates
Enter the rates from your agreement or use a synthetic example. No official provider preset is verified or enabled.
JavaScript is required to calculate. Explanations and source limitations below remain available; no inputs are submitted to a server.
Your estimate
Start with your assumptions
Enter a gross amount or target net payout and confirm the selected fee terms, then calculate. Editing an input clears the previous estimate.
USD only. Combined rates must be below 100%. Fees exceeding gross produce an error. Inputs stay in this page’s memory; no amounts are sent to a server, stored or added to URLs.
Single-transaction fees and monthly costs answer different questions
For one payment, enter the gross, percentage and fixed transaction charge; reverse mode finds the modeled gross needed for a target net. Monthly mode additionally needs transaction count, an average ticket and recurring cost. It estimates processing across identical assumed tickets, then adds recurring cost once.
An average ticket does not reproduce a statement
Rounding happens per assumed transaction, before multiplication by count. A real mix of ticket sizes can have the same total gross and a different total fee. Monthly output is a planning estimate, not a reconciliation of actual payments. There is no monthly reverse mode.
A markup is not a complete interchange-plus rate
This tool does not fetch card-network interchange or assess card/product-specific charges. Entering only a processor's markup understates any other costs you have left out. A user-entered aggregate percentage can illustrate an assumption, but does not reconstruct an interchange-plus statement, tiers or caps.
How the fee and net receipt are calculated
For the supported additive model: fee = rounded percentage of gross + fixed charge; net = gross − fee. Effective rate = fee ÷ gross × 100. A zero gross has no defined effective rate. A fee exceeding gross produces an error rather than a hidden negative payout.
Custom mode combines additive percentages on the same gross, rounds that total once using your chosen half-up or half-even convention, then adds fixed cents. This is your model assumption, not a verified provider policy.
Reverse mode finds the smallest gross in integer cents whose modeled net meets the target, and checks the preceding cent. That minimum is not a guarantee of provider acceptance or permission to surcharge a customer. FX, caps, tiers, thresholds and separately rounded or cascading charges are unsupported.
Worked fee and reverse examples
Each row uses $100.00 gross and a separate $100.00 target net. Values are generated by the tested calculation engine, using the stated convention. The 3% + $0.30 inputs are synthetic assumptions, not a universal processing tariff.
| Scenario / assumptions | Fee / net on $100 gross | Gross for $100 net |
|---|---|---|
| Synthetic custom transaction 3% + $0.30 Custom assumptions · half-up | $3.30 fee $96.70 net | $103.40 minimum $3.40 fee $99.99 net at one cent less |
Monthly synthetic example: 100 identical $100.00 tickets at 3% + $0.30, with $20.00 recurring cost, give $10,000.00 gross, $330.00 processing fees, $350.00 total cost and $9,650.00 net. This is not a statement reconstruction; different actual ticket sizes can change cent rounding.
Frequently asked questions
What inputs are needed for a monthly estimate?
Enter transaction count, average ticket, percentage and per-transaction fixed charge, plus a recurring monthly cost if applicable. The model assumes all tickets equal that average, rounds per ticket and adds the recurring amount once.
Why might two businesses with the same sales total pay different fees?
Fixed fees depend on transaction count, and rounding depends on individual ticket sizes. Payment methods, agreements and unmodeled charges can differ too. Total sales alone does not specify a fee rule or a transaction list.
Does the effective rate replace my quoted percentage?
No. Effective rate is total modeled fee divided by gross, expressed as a percentage. It includes fixed charges and, in monthly mode, recurring cost. At zero gross it is undefined and displayed as N/A.
Can I estimate interchange-plus or tiered pricing automatically?
No automatic interchange, card mix or tier selection is provided. Custom additive assumptions are useful only when their bases and rounding match the model. Caps, thresholds, tiers and separately rounded components require another model.
